Qualche giorno fa siamo andati a visitare una nuova mostra a Palazzo Blu, (casa d'arte che ormai, per Pisa e la Toscana, è una certezza di qualità quando si tratta di raccontare (non solo mostrare) l'arte e la storia; in questo caso la storia del cinema che si fonde con la storia contemporanea d'Italia e non solo.
Titolo della mostra "Tirrenia Città del Cinema: Pisorno-Cosmopolitan 1934-1969". L'abbiamo trovata davvero interessante e curata perfettamente, da una collaborazione della fondazione Palazzo Blu e il Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino, ecco alcune immagini che ci hanno colpito maggiormente e che contribuiscono a raccontare la storia di questa Hollywood pisana nata qualche anno prima di Cinecittà a Roma.
E' il caso di dirlo... Buona visione!

A few days ago we went to visit a new exhibition at Palazzo Blu, (art house that now, to Pisa and Tuscany, is an assurance of quality when it comes to tell, not only show, art and history; in this case the history of cinema that blends with the contemporary history of Italy and beyond.
Title of the exhibition "Tirrenia Film City: Cosmopolitan Pisorno-1934-1969". We found it really interesting and well taken care of, from a collaboration of Palazzo Blu Foundation and the National Museum of Cinema in Turin, here are some pictures that stood out the most and which help to tell the story of this Hollywood Pisa born a few years before Cinecittà in Rome.

From the early thirties to the sixties an important chapter in film history was written in Tirrenia, between the pinewood and the sea. In 1934, in fact, a very modern facility designed by Antonio Valente, among the first in Italy by the will of Joachim Forzano, in Tirrenia were built film studios PISORNO (name which ideally connected the two cities of Pisa and Livorno), to be adequately equipped for the production of sound films. Thus began a fascinating story in which the events of our cimena intertwined with those of the Italian history. In the years before the outbreak of World War II the hotels and the beaches of Tirrenia were populated by actors, movie stars and directors; while technicians and local workers took each day "trammino" from Pisa or Livorno to get to work on on September Then came the war and the studies were seized for military use by the Germans, then by the Americans. Risen in the years Cinquante on the musical notes of the film by Claudio Villa and Luciano Tajoli, the Pisorno was baptized COSMOPOLITAN. Tirrenia, dalle Paludi alla città del cinema
Nella pineta selvaggia di Tombolo, popolata da cacciatori di cinghiali e cantata da D'Annunzio, negli anni trenta sorse Tirrenia. I migliori architetti dell'epoca furono chiamati a inventare una nuova città voluta dal regime, quasi come scenografi sul set.

Giovacchino Forzano, intellettuale eclettico, regista, fondatore della Pisorno e figura chiave dei primi venti anni dell'attività cinematografica di Tirrenia. Sua la direzione e la gestione economica degli studi ( anche nonno di Luca Giurato e amico di Mussolini... nessuno è perfetto). Tra i suoi film "Campo di Maggio" (1935), primo titolo prodotto alla Pisorno.

Tirrenia come Hollywood-
La fatale Doris Duranti, la giovane Alida Valli, Amedeo Nazzari, Gino Cervi, Luisa Ferida e Osvaldo Valente; ma anche i fratelli De Filippo e Macario. Negli anni'30/'40 passavano da Tirrenia tutti i volti amati di allora. Gli spettatori potevano ritrovarli anche nei cineromanzi: un modo allora assai in voga di rivivere i film preferiti.

In pineta infatti si rifugiavano contrabbandieri, disertori e prostitute. Una storia di disperazione che non mancò di ispirare il cinema.

Luci puntate su questo film del 1952, il titolo che tentò il rilancio della Pisorno nel dopoguerra. Sceneggiatura, piano di lavorazione, bozzetti, foto dis cena e materiali pubblicitari: tanti di modi di guardare un solo film che racconta l'Italia di quegli anni con l'occhio di un regista americano destinato a diventare uno dei grandi "autori" del cinema.

Negli anni '60 aria di rivoluzione. Nuovi volti, nuovi generi, nuovi codici: a Tirrenia arrivano Edwige Fenech, Sandra Milo, Dean reed. Si girano western all'italiana, polizieschi, film erotici. Poi negli studi le luci si spengono ma la memoria rimane. Se ne ricorderanno, per esempio, i fratelli Taviani, girando in quei luoghi "Good Morning Babilonia" del 1987.

To get to Blue Palace we had a long walk to Pisa, so we had a look at the city walls after the restoration and, in return, we went to one of my favorite squares, Piazza Santa Caterina to greet the Grand Duke and his pet pigeon !
